TRAVEL · BOOKING & RESERVATIONS
Reduce booking hesitation without another countdown.
A €2,000 trip for four people is a household decision with a cancellation policy attached. Hesitation is not weak intent — it is someone waiting for information, or waiting for a partner to reply.
Search → results → property or fare selection → dates and travellers → extras → payment. Loss clusters at the cancellation policy, and at the moment the total changes because of taxes, baggage, transfers or a resort fee.
THE FRICTION MIX
Commitment first, and half the blockers are not on your website.
Travel is the sector where restraint is easiest to justify and hardest to practise. A large share of stalled bookings are waiting on a person who is not in the session — and no message resolves that.
Commitment friction
Refundability, change fees, and the deadline for both. The single most common unanswered question in travel, and answerable in one sentence.
Price friction
Per-person versus total, taxes, baggage, transfers, and the fee that appears at the end. A moving target the buyer is trying to pin down.
Choice friction
Four room types differing on one attribute nobody explained. Resolved by the distinction, worsened by a fifth option.
SIGNALS THIS SECTOR PRODUCES
Share-link and traveller-count edits are the pair worth naming: they usually mean a second decision-maker exists. That is a reason to be patient, not louder.
The friction vocabulary →A WORKED DECISION
One session, on the room selection.
01 · WHAT THE SESSION DID
Changes dates three times, cycles between two room types, opens the cancellation policy, then copies the page link and stops.
02 · THE HYPOTHESIS
Commitment friction, confidence 81% — with a share event raising the probability that the decision has moved off-site to a second person.
03 · THE RESPONSE
Level 1 — what is reversible, in writing, at the point of doubt: “Dates can be moved once free of charge up to 14 days before departure.” No urgency, no incentive, nothing to dismiss.
WHAT THIS SECTOR USUALLY DOES INSTEAD
“14 people are looking at this hotel”
Ten-minute price-hold countdown
Chat pop-up after 30 seconds on the page
Invented social proof and manufactured urgency are both on the forbidden list, enforced at render. Applied to a household decision they convert some people and lose the ones who resent being pushed.
AND WHERE WE STAY SILENT
The share-link session, once the link is copied — the blocker has left your site. Also anyone reading a property page slowly without a comparison loop: dwell on its own is usually someone reading properly.
L0 IS STILL THE MOST COMMON DECISION IN THIS SECTOR
THE ECONOMICS HERE
Booking counts flatter interventions that sell cheaper inventory.
Travel margin varies enormously by rate, room and package. An intervention that moves hesitant buyers onto the refundable-but-cheaper option raises bookings and can lower contribution — and only a margin-based holdout will show it.
Cross-device is the other trap: a considered booking spans sessions, so last-touch logic will credit your nudge with reservations it had nothing to do with.
WHAT A PILOT SCOPES TO

FOUNDING PILOT SLOT
OPEN
The interesting publishable number in travel is the restraint rate — what share of stalled bookings are waiting on someone off-site and should never have been messaged at all. Nobody in this sector currently measures it, because the tooling has no way to record a decision to stay quiet.
